PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS

The 2021 APSAD Scientific Advisory Committee is pleased to announce the Pre-Conference Workshops to be held on Saturday 6 November and Sunday 7 November 2021.

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Special Interest Group (FASD-SIG)

Overview:

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) SIG – pre-conference event will include a range of different types of sessions across the day including: invited keynote speakers, short research talks focused on new findings, a lived experience panel discussion and an interactive workshop session. The SIG day is planned to be an inclusive event open to a wide range of people including, people with lived experience, advocacy groups, community members, researchers, clinicians, and students. Hepatitis C in Drug and Alcohol Settings

Overview:

People who inject drugs represent approximately 90% of newly acquired hepatitis C (HCV) infections. This course aims to provide addiction physicians, general practitioners, nurse practitioners, and other practitioners working in Drug and Alcohol settings with the skills and knowledge to diagnose HCV, manage comorbidities and treat HCV. The annual Australasian Smoking Cessation Professionals (ASCP) Update Day

Overview:

The annual Australasian Smoking Cessation Professionals (ASCP) Update Day provides an important avenue for ASCP to promote latest research and best practice approaches in the treatment of nicotine dependence and smoking cessation. The Update Day is open to any worker who is interested in enhancing their knowledge around tobacco cessation / electronic nicotine delivery systems and the latest evidence based treatment interventions.
This year the APSAD Smoking Cessation Special Interest Group Update Day will focus on a range of topics, including:
• Nicotine vaping – evidence on efficacy for supporting smoking cessation, possible harms, and experiences with nicotine vaping on both sides of the Tasman
• Adolescents and exposure to nicotine
• Cytisine for smoking cessation
• Smoking and smoking cessation in First Nations people
• Brief student presentations
